Rich Ajax Platform :

People who might not know what this Platform actually does, would be debating with me for 'why i have posted this under Eclipse Development and not Web Development. But for a developer like me, this category looks more appropriate.

" Rich Ajax Platform enables developers to build rich, Ajax-enabled Web applications by using the Eclipse development model, plug-ins with the well known Eclipse workbench extenstion points, JFace, and a widget toolkit with SWT API "

This platform encapsulates all the difficulties that a web developer like me usually faces, sitting with javascript/ajax intergration and complexity problems. RAP uses qooxdoo JavaScript library under the hood. Hence the developer is confronted with the only task of building a GUI using his SWT knowledge and the framework takes care of converting it into a WebApp with Ajax functionality.

There are some good screencasts at Getting Started with RAP. This would be the right place for you to become a SWT programmer to a WEB programmer in few hours.

For a guy who knows how to develop a UI in RCP Framework, converting it into RAP would be a cake walk. chk this link for the step by step procedure. Code reusability is once sexy advantage we get from this.

I too tried my hands on this stable release or RAP 1.0. It was a RCP App that i had built sometime ago. It didnt take me more than an hour to get it transformed to a RAP App. It still sounds like a magic to me. But here is the screenshot

RAP Application

I could see that RAP is still under evolution, if they reach a level of providing compatible APIs for all the features that are currently available in RCP. Time won’t be far, when designers will stop wasting time in discussion rooms debating abt whether the product they build should be a Desktop App or Web App for more customer satisfaction.
